What money habits keep you poor?

+1 and I’ll add —— sending your kids to a $50K/year private school only to watch similar kids who go to public schools get into the same high tier colleges that your kid got into.

Buying high and panicking and then selling low. Investments across the board.

If you don’t get it, you don’t get it. It’s not about “getting into college.” It’s about college preparation, being able to participate in whichever sports you want in 9th grade, well-behaved student body and so many other things.

Hey believe what you want to believe to justify all that money you are paying to a private school while also paying property taxes and subsidizing public school students. Confirmation bias at its best.

If private schools prepare their students for college so well, why do ALL of my friends who send their kids to private schools also pay for tutors and test prep outside of their school. The reality is public schools prepare their students for college just as much as private schools do and public school parents also pay for tutors and test prep. Public school kids can participate in any sport they want in 9th grade as well (not sure where you are coming from on this). A well-behaved student body --- paahleeeze lol -- you are kidding yourself. Private schools have drug and discipline problems just as bad as public schools. In fact, the drug problem is worse since these kids have access to money.

How so? Republicans want to generally reduced my tax burden. Democrats want to continually increase my tax burden and redistribute my wealth.

+1 Don't tell a private school parent that they just wasted a ton of money. It makes them very emotional.

Good luck trying to play soccer or lacrosse for the very first time at a 3,000 student public school.

Your kid must not be athletic. But hey if paying $50K/yr so little Jimmy can play for his school makes you feel better knock yourself out. Of course, in the real world, this is not how it works.

There are many more steps than just getting into the top tier colleges, don't worry.

Some public schools are fine, if you are in a magnet you are in a defacto private school paid by taxpayers, so congrats.

Having pets you cannot afford.
Eating out/takeout more than 2x a week.
Not learning how to cook.
Not learning how to repair your own stuff on the cheap (YouTube is a great resource for basic skill building)
Not brewing your own coffee at home.
Paying more to work than you're taking in (eg., it's more expensive to work than to not).
Buying too much house.
Buying too much car(s).
Paying for private schools (that aren't any better than public schools).
Not having the patience to shop around and buy strategically.
Not checking your stock portfolio at least four times a week to manage it actively.
Buying your kids every single thing they ask for.
Living in an incredibly high-cost area where you can never get ahead financially, and being too scared to move and better your financial picture.
