You only care about a primary challenger if you care about reelection. She's unelectable now |
Is this a joke? |
+2 She does like to be at the center of attention, but I’d be interested to know if that is what Arizonans wanted when they elected her. There’s something untrustworthy about her and this just confirms it. |
Let's be real, you would not have this outrage if any Republicans made the same move as Sinema. We vote for people, not parties - or at least we should. |
Exactly! +1 |

"To put it mildly, Sinema has not endeared herself to Democrats in her home state. Earlier this year, Data For Progress polled Arizona Democrats and found the incumbent senator trailing Gallego in a hypothetical primary match-up, 74% to 16%. That’s not a typo: She actually trailed the popular congressman by 58 points. With this in mind, Sinema very likely realized that she had a decision to make: She could (a) retire; (b) take steps to repair the relationship with the Democratic voters who elected her in the first place; or (c) take her chances as an independent. As a tactical matter, settling on the third option makes sense. Sinema was very likely to lose a Democratic primary, her voting record made a run as a Republican implausible, and she didn’t want to walk away from Capitol Hill altogether. Becoming an independent is a sensible strategy. Indeed, it’s not unrealistic to think it might very well save her career. Democrats will likely think twice about running a candidate against her in 2024, fearing that splitting the center-left mainstream could leave the seat in Republican hands. " Why does he expect democrats to not field a candidate? Do the Arizona state party rules even allow for that? |
People grow and change. |
Maybe we "should" but that is just not realistic these days. There are huge consequences based on political party. Do you think anyone voted for Hershel Walker because they thought he would be a good senator? |
Oh yes no one was at all outraged when Arlen Specter did this. 🫠 - am old |
I wouldn't be surprised to see a movement to change AZ's law to adopt this or some kind of ranked choice. The GOP still controls the AZ legislature, but the Ds might be able to tempt a few of the moderate Rs ones to go for something like this as a way to temper the extremism in their own party. And now they have the Governorship too. |
Democrats just did this in Utah for Evan McMullin and did it in Alaska in 2020. |
|
People do not understand how angry AZ Dem voters are at Sinema. The AZ Dems are consolidated and fired up to replace her.
The GOP will put up a MAGA candidate in 2024 and that person will get 35% of the vote in a general election. That leaves 65% to split between Dem Gallego and Ind. Sinema. Gallego will get at least 40% The math doesn’t work for Independent Sinema in the 2024 General Election. Shes appealing to disaffected non-MAGA Republicans and there are not enough of them to win. |
Al Gross was on the democrat's primary ballot- Alaska is a weird state https://ballotpedia.org/United_States_Senate_election_in_Alaska,_2020 Democrats in Utah voted to not have a nominee at their convention. Arizona democrats hate Sinema now- why would they defer to her like that? |
