The thread is multiple pages. Best to actually be clear on what you are responding to. Unclear why your posts are so combative. |
Maybe the kids could feel your judgment... |
Doubtful with their air pods in. |
Of course they’re not going to respect you? WTF ? So it’s normal for kids not to respect adults? Keep that bar low, PP. You are part of the problem. |
Oh look. Governor Youngkin found the thread. |
There is a spectrum of respect but, yes, most 8th graders and HS kids will disrespect adults. Some just do it behind their backs, to friends, etc. My child has a couple of "perfect angel" friends and they do it all the time. Do you actually know any teens? |
| It sounds like this isn’t a high performing school in general. I’d be sad my child goes here. Hopefully yours is in the honors/gifted program... |

If only there was an Aaron or Denise in OP's class... that would be gold: |
NP. Combative? OP’s original post was immediately - and inexplicably- attacked by several parents. Parents have gone on to attack all subs, and even defend sleeping in class by suggesting you’ll go on to be super successful in life after sleeping your way through school. oK. Maybe the defensiveness is just “momma bears” lashing out at the suggestion some kids are not OK. Is it in our children’s best interest to just look the other way and pretend our kids are OK, when many are clearly not? |
No question behavioral issues are worse in lower performing schools but if you think honors kids can’t be complete a-holes, you are in denial. |

NP. I think every parent on DCUM should sub at a middle school at least once, just to have the experience. You will see just how difficult it is to be a teacher, and just how wide the range of issues are that they deal with every day. And that's without having to plan a single lesson or grade a single piece of work.
You will see that it is difficult work, and that teachers do their best every day to put a happy face on and inspire students of this age. It is shameful that teachers are being dragged through the mud here on DCUM for doing their best in a difficult job in the most difficult of circumstances. |
+1 My kid is in an honors program in a lower performing middle school and I think some of you might be surprised by who the biggest a-holes are. |
+1 a parent spends one day in the classroom and thinks the world is coming to an end. |
This is so true ☹️ |
