Did your child test positive or negative on the rapid test?

My kid has the test. Am I supposed to do something with it? I a saint it is for use if she feels sick?

The instructions in the kit did not match the items in the kit. The instructions indicated it was premixed but it wasn’t and we had to add the solution ourselves.

The instructions explain that there are two types of kits. Either prefilled or not.

10th grader did not receive a kit at school today.

I did find it a bit confusing that the instructions did not match the materials provided. And the squeeze the q-tip bit was awkward. Not my favorite rapid antigen test. And it's so sad that I now have a favorite rapid antigen test!

I wish they would make this mandatory by Wednesday, rather than "please do this by Friday." I hope they will at least follow up with families that don't submit results.

The form doesn’t even ask for student ID numbers, so tracking down kids who don’t submit would be tough. You couldn’t run a check against a database, someone would have to do at least parts of it manually. I doubt anyone has the time for that right now.

We aren't getting our tests until tomorrow, but given that mine just recovered from COVID, I'm sure it will be negative.

Are they asking people to take two tests this week a few days apart and record both, or just one test?

1 MS and 1 HS kid each negative. We’ve been keeping to ourselves w/no travel and no get-togethers, but the Ms kid does an indoor team sport 2-3x/week, though masked….so this increases our risk level and I’m glad to have the reassurance of a negative test.
For those with positive tests , I’m sorry, and hope your family members fare well and get support from school. Thanks to all those reporting.
Agreed that since it’s the honor system it’s far from ideal (which is sad to say), but it’s the best we can do for now so let’s see how it all plays out.

With 2 kids who just recovered from covid, this just feels so wasteful. There are so many people who need tests and cannot get them. I hate that I have to use these.

Keeping my elementary aged kid home for 10 days with no school (sorry random virtual academy is not school) is also a concern for reporting positive (my kid isn't positive FYI). I just don't understand how MCPS thinks it's appropriate to keep a child out of school for two weeks without the option to test negative to return after 5 days. This is insanity. It's a disincentive to report positive cases.

Agreed. There just needs to be mandatory pooled testing on a weekly basis. No opt out.

No you have it absolutely wrong. If they want to force kids to stay home, they need to excuse all work. The days of forcing parents to homeschool needs to end. We have jobs and in my case a HS student that I cannot assist with their level of work. [/quote

Why can't they treat like any other excused sick absence? Children work asynchronously, turn in work on a modified schedule, etc. When you have the flu, you don't get to just get all work waiived.

Because it is the last two weeks of the semester and these grades are needed for college transcripts. This isn’t 3 grade level school work, it requires instruction from a teacher and can’t be done asynchronous. The whole asynchronous is a f()king disaster for high school students.

Despite having 1 kid test positive on Friday by pcr, the other 3 tested negative with the mcps tests tonight. I’m dubious. How aren’t my other kids sick?

The other kids were asymptomatic and already had it....or they will test positive in a day or two.

Us too. The box had all the parts but the solution vial was empty.

Look again. The liquid is there to fill it with.

Yes I know that but we only have one liquid plus one vial despite there being two swabs and two little test strip thingys- so only one full test. We took the one test but now have no liquid or vial left to do the second. But I guess we’re only supposed to do one so maybe it doesn’t matter? My point was more like the logistics of this whole thing seem challenging, compounded by a manufacturing error…

Yep. My kids didn’t get it until day 5 and day 7, after their sister first tested positive.

Do you have any idea how many businesses are testing employees weekly or more either because the employees are unvaccinated or because they can’t risk a facility shutdown? It’s a lot. Don’t feel bad about mcps doing one round of tests on kids when we are at a historic high point for infections.

My teen got a moderate bloody nose after the test. Those of you with kids prone to bloody noses, please keep tissues handy. Fortunately teen managed to contain most of the blood. Poor thing.

Instructions said you could have “test 1” or “test 2.” One of them has the premixed solution, and the other did not. Instructions were provided for both

For everyone noting that you've been careful, please be aware that unless you literally are not going anywhere (grocery store, school, etc.) it likely is just luck and not your preventative measures with omicron. I have two extended family members who had literally only been around other people for a quick, n95 masked with eye glasses trip to grocery stores, both got COVID in the past week. Someone up thread mentioned they were careful except for a masked indoor sport; that was us, child caught it from sport while wearing a mask, and then the whole family got it. My point is that being careful doesn't work anymore unless it means complete isolation.
