Adderall prescription and doctor approvals - how does it work for you?

Anonymous
Last year I had Kaiser insurance and during that time, I was diagnosed and prescribed generic Adderall. While I was with Kaiser, I had to request my refill online, then the doctor approved it online, the pharmacy received the approval and then I could go get it.

This year I have switched to CareFirst. I went to a new doctor for a physical and to get my prescription set up under a new doctor. I forgot to ask her how the refills would work, but now I've emailed to get the answer, and this practice requires that you do a video visit every month when you need a refill. The copay for each video visit is $60. So that's like, $720 in a year just to get prescription refills. The doctor said if I need other options, I could look at cerebral dot com and another one like that, and I looked and those have like $70 a month membership fees.

So now I don't know what to do. Do I have to call around to various doctors offices who take CareFirst and ask them how they handle the controlled substance prescriptions?

I work with a practice that does a video visit every three months, but the appointment is only partially covered by insurance, and I am out of pocket about $180 for the visit. So about the same as yours, $60/monthly.
