Eggs left out

Anonymous
I accidentally left a carton of eggs out of the fridge for two days. They are eggs from a local farm but I'm pretty sure they wash them. That means I need to pitch them right? I'm just wondering how big of a salmonella risk it really is if I thoroughly cook them?

I'm just feeling really lazy about having to go to the store to buy more eggs.

Eggs are meant to be left out of the fridge. We never put ours in. When baking, make everything room temperature - eggs, milk, etc your cake will come out much better.

Even when you buy them from the store and they were previously refrigerated? My DH grew up in a country where eggs are always left out too but my understanding is that with the way we process eggs in the U.S. its safer to refrigerate them.

Yes, we have never refrigerated and never had a problem.

Problem is in North America, eggs are washed, which makes them lose their natural protection.

I’d do the water egg test and eat them if they sink.

Doesn't detect bacteria though.

I would do this for overnight (and have). When you start talking about multiple days though, I would throw them out.

My eggs are sitting out always. No problems here.

2 days, I would probably toss. My guess is that if you are thoroughly cooking them, they will not kill you.

I would keep them but I wouldn’t leave them out generally bcs of the washing thing

Really? You should reconsider this.

This. As long as they don’t float in water you’re fine.
