I've read all the posts on pumping during longer business trips. All very helpful advice, since I have some of those coming up in May and June. Question is, I have to go to NYC for meetings soon. It's *not* an overnight trip but it will make for a long day, packed with meetings. I will pump before I leave early in the morning, and again when I return, which will be pretty late at night.
Questions: 1. Should I just forget about pumping during the day? I have pretty much back to back meetings in different venues. Or is there a way around it? 2. Is there a preferred mode of transportation that is more conducive to pumping? For instance, should I pick Amtrak over flying? Has anyone pumped on the train before? Or on an airplane? Does that even work? A little stressed out here...and could use some advice. Thanks!! |
| I am also interested in some advice. thx. |

Is your supply well established? Do you normally pump or do you BF directly? If you go all day without pumping (how about taking 20 minute during lunch?) you'll be engorged although if you stop yourself from drinking water (which I DON'T recommened) the engorgement might be bearable.
The plane ride might be quicker to NY than the train so that can get you to your destination faster and maybe give you some "free time" to pump. I've had to pump in the bathroom - the handicap stalls have more room - and ended up dumping it since it wasn't practical for me to tote it around with me all day. I stocked some up in the refrig. for DH to give to DD. Good luck and safe travels. |
| OP here. My supply is well-established (DS is 9wks) but I wasn't a wet nurse in my former life. I have to supplement with formula. However, I do pump once before leaving for work and then 3 times at work and once at bed time. My supply isn't enough to be able to store more than two maybe three feeds ahead of time. So, dumping isn't an option. I do get painfully engorged, though. |
| OP again: I nurse 3 times during the night and in the evening when I get back from work. |
