I came across some information on a different list serve that I wanted to share....
..After thousands of parents started coming forward with complaints, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has launched an investigation into the Dry Max technology used in Pampers new Swaddlers and Cruisers diapers... Here is a link to one of the many stories: http://www.wgntv.com/news/wgntv-diapers-cause-chemical-burn-april30,0,7374933.story |
| OMG THAT WOULD EXPLAIN SO MUCH! We just opened the new box of these diapers after running out of the others we bought in bulk at BJs. After 2 days in these diapers I noticed a rash on my baby and last night he had a severe diaper rash-like burn on his bottom - but he hadn't had any diarrhea or anything to cause it! |
| OP, can you share any more information about this? My son has horrible rash and we use these diapers - I'd be very interested to read more about this. |
| there's also a facebook page about this. someone posted it a week or two ago. with horrible pictures of what drymax did to their babies' bottoms. |
|
I posted the FB link a few days ago.
Here it is again: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=788922&id=1647616789&ref=mf Do a search for Cathy McKellar-Valentine on Facebook if the link doesn't work. |
| Holy cow. Thanks for sharing this. I just got some today and will be throwing them in the trash. |
|
Take them back to the store where you got them. I read on another site that Safeway was willing to take them back when the mom told them her story.
You could always try (diapers are expensive!). |
| What do people use instead of Pampers? My DS is only three weeks old but readig this makes me want to send DH for new diapers right now. Problem is, the three times we used Huggies we had leaks! DS has pretty skinny legs, it seems to me ... |
| I like target diapers. cheaper and work just as well as the expensive brands. and no problems with leaks or rashes. |
| Huggies leaked for me too. We always used Pampers, so yeah, this sucks. We bought a small thing of Luvs, so far so good. |
| I started another recent thread on this asking what other brands people are using now. So, you can do a search on that. Seemed like many like the Costco or Target diapers. I am so afraid to even try the new Cruisers that I returned the box I had just bought and we bought a box at Costco last weekend. Haven't tried them yet, though. But for some reason I have a feeling that I'm going to wonder why I didn't try them a long time ago with our first child and save all the $$ I spent on Pampers. |
| We use cloth. I think there is no way that putting a bunch of synthetic petrochemicals next to my babies' developing genitalia 24/7 for several years can be a good idea. Stories like this make me so glad we're avoiding all that. |
For those not doing cloth, you can also do 7th Generation or other chlorine free diapers. FWIW my mom used pampers on me and my genitals are in EXCELLENT condition. Seriously, I could win awards. |
|
Yes, cloth is always a good option. Not always possible though.
We're trying the Huggies Pure and Natural next. |
| Do all Pampers have Dry Max now or do they have "regular" cruisers? |
