I feel like i've been looking through the internet for hours to no avail.... partially because I'm not quite sure what color will go best.
I just bought a really nice kelly green work dress. Fairly expensive, plan to wear to client events and other more formal work occasions. The dress is a fairly simple sheath style, but it would benefit from a belt. Because of the simplicity of the dress, and the professional setting, I know for sure that the belt should be minimalist - no bows, edging, fancy buckles etc. And it shouldn't be a skinny belt - should, be at least 1.5 inches. I go back and forth between thinking brown vs black, but ultimately i think brown? Also should be high quality; like, i saw one on Loft that looks okay but i know that it will look like cheap plastic in real life, which isn't going to work. I thought it would be easy to find a million cute waist cinch belts on the internet, but it's surprisingly hard to find one that is professionally simplistic. So putting it out to the peanut gallery.... open to any color (if you think one goes better with kelly green), professional, minimalist waist cinch belt. Thaniks! |
| Black patent |

what shoes will you wear?
Black patent is classic - Navy would also work. A pop of color (depending on your work) could work well, too - yellow, orange, hot pink? |
| what shoes? |
| Navy!!! |

OP here thanks for the responses! I can wear whatever shoes to work with the belt.
I hadn't thought of navy. I think a bold navy will make the color scheme a little too cartoonish. But maybe a dark navy - like inky blue. Of course, navy has even less options than black and brown, so you've potentially made this search even harder! |
I was coming in to say exactly this. It need not go with navy shoes, that rule (matching belt and shoes) is outdated now. |
| Also you might check Boden. For all the hate their clothes get here, their belts are pretty innocuous. |
| What about a soft leather obi wrap belt? I have a black one that I use for shift dresses like yours. |
| I was also going to say Boden and navy. I wear a ton of green and navy together. I think suede or a really soft leather would be best - something that will look soft and inky. |
| Green. Either the same shade or a shade lighter or darker would also be really nice |
| I was thinking white would look nice, but black patent leather or navy is also good. |
| Agree with parent leather. Other nice things would be woven raffia, or tortoise shell if you can find it. I have a fabulous tortoise shell belt from the 60s that would look great w your Kelly green dress! |
Yes to tortoise! I was thinking that too. |
