How long are new construction homes taking?

Anonymous
We are under contract for a house still under construction (but not a custom build) with the wood frame up and looks like they are starting to put up the roof. Reputable builder in Arlington. Any idea how long they are normally taking to be complete? We’re hoping to move in before winter. Of course the builder told us it will happen but I don’t know if I can rely on that.

Who's your builder? That would influence my answer. Ours was right on schedule and we could tell throughout by looking at the detailed schedule they'd laid out at the beginning.

Thanks, that’s good to hear! Was that recently? I don’t feel comfortable disclosing the builder but they are currently building several homes in Arlington.

Double whatever timeframe they told you. Even before COVID that was generally what would happen.

We built with a popular well regarded Arlington builder and finished last year right on schedule.

Op, what's the name of the builder. If you can't tell us that then hard to give opinion.

Spring Street and Whitestone

Everyone else a crap shoot. Our neighborhood is full of tear downs and those two seem to run the toughest ship.

Our street was screwed up Wednesday because a builder was trying to pour concrete before the forms were set. He has a few houses that always seem to be having things redone because the crews are not synchronized.

Is your builder an Arlington builder or is it someone like Wormald, Evergreene, or Stanley Martin ? The latter may have no juice with Arlington Co to get your CO

Yeah, how does where they are compare to the schedule they gave you? Obviously that won’t indicate any future delays, but certainly will show you how realistic they thought that initial schedule was.

Yes, this was last year in Arlington with a builder who builds several homes in Arlington. Only delays were appliances (but we closed and moved in on time).

I went under contract in May 2020 and was given a January 2021 closing date. I didn't close until October 2021. Granted, my building was right at the height of Covid so my timeline was greatly impacted.

A friend of mine is building in Alexandria currently, and his timeline appears to be progressing on schedule.
