| I saw signs that it is being revitalized. Is that really happening? Are there any interesting restaurants slated to come in? Will the Safeway be replaced? |
|
Well this looks interesting.

Wow, those pictures make that dumpy site look dazzling.
Not a pothole, traffic jam or disjointed parking lot in sight! |
| Yep, very dumpy. We call it the "Scary Safeway". It will be another 15-20 years before people will start tearing down and rebuilding homes in that neighborhood. That'll be too late for us. Sorry, all you Chesterbrook Elem boosters. |
| I poked around several months ago and found a write up about plans for improvements meant to give it more of an outdoor mall vibe, but there was no word on specific tenants. |
LYes, it's the Ghetto Safeway. But, they supposedly recently re-did it --inside. Still sketchy. |
I thought it was the Soviet Safeway because they are always out of stuff. |
No thats the one in Arlington off Wilson blvd. Famous for expired dairy and meat products. |
| It's being redone by the same group that did the Giant Shopping Center in Falls Church near Rt 7/Haycock. Just a facelift really. |
| The Walgreens is gone. I feel sorry for the folks at Vinson Hall. |
both are called the Soviet or Rushin (rush in and out) Safeway’s by locals. |
What neighborhood? It really isnt in a neighborhood. |
| It still amazes me, 20 years on, that there's absolutely zero there there in McLean. We're all in on the joke and our real estate values continue to go up and up. Our kids can go to some of the best public schools in the country and we'll still have to leave them the house in our will because they won't be able to afford to buy anything close. |

I don't live anywhere near there now but I did in the 1960s. I just did a drive by on google maps street view. It hasn't changed a bit although there wasn't a Starbucks there back then (there wasn't one anywhere else either!)
Seems to me that the multi-millionaires of McLean would demand better for their shopping pleasure after all these years. |
| Based on Falls Church, they’ll add a taco place. |
