I see a few wives of lobbyists and they act very rich. The guys also walk around like they own the place. The biggest jerk I know is also the son of a lobbyist.
What type of background do you need to become a lobbyist? We know tons of lawyers, doctors, finance folks, real estate investors but not any lobbyists. |
| Depends who they lobby for. Lawyers who are lobbyists can make a significant ($500k+++) amount of money. |
| It totally depends on who you lobby for. You could lobby for a small environmental non-profit or a giant oil company. I know lobbyists who make $1M+ a year, but that is not most of them. It really depends. |
| As much as it takes to buy their soul. |
| There are so many different types of lobbyists. Every major company has lobbyists...airlines, auto industry, pharma, tobacco, energy, big tech, grocery, healthcare, etc... It's like asking how much a doctor makes. There are too many different types to generalize. |

I make about $300k doing work I think is morally righteous. But I know a big firm lobbyist who gives twice as much as my salary just in political donations every year.
Don’t even want to think about her salary. |
| pp, how best to get into a similar line of work? |
Work on the Hill. |
|
$0 - $20 million.
You cannot be a lobbyist if you are asking how does one become a lobbyist. |
+1 Lol |
| Far too much for ruining the country. |
So that air that I am noticing is probably what comes with the industry. They deal with big companies and a lot of money so they walk around kind of high and mighty. |
| Agree, it can vary so much. Both my husband and I are registered lobbyists. He is also a lawyer and works at a big firm, but the majority of his job is taking clients to the Hill and trying to influence policy (environmental arena). He makes $500+. I am also a registered lobbyist, I work for a think tank and lobby on their policy proposals. I make $210k. We both have 20 years work experience and began our careers on the Hill. I like to think we aren't jerks! |
| Those that lobby with their personal assets make the most, I guess. |
| My H is a think tank lobbyist with a decade + of previous Hill experience. He makes $250k. It varies wildly depending on what organization you are lobbying for and my H has always been cause driven so generally he earns on the lower end. The cause driven explains the decade + on the Hill… |
