So you can't use them to show your kid doesn't have COVID? You can only prove you don't have COVID by having a medical professional write a note? That's.... interesting. What was the point of the tests? Why didn't the school nurses stock them and test exposed/symptomatic kids? |
Our school sent us home with a home test and an instruction sheet on how to take the test proctored. Which was incredibly simple. I’m sure you can use any home test using this process. |
If your kid tests positive, you can skip dragging your sick kid out of the house for a covid test. But it makes sense not to allow it to confirm a negative result, because people could fake the tests by not actually doing the nasal swab. |
How did your school instruct to take the test proctored? |
Yes, definitely reasonable as there are people who are not trustworthy out there, but between giving out KN 95 masks that were even too big for me as an adult, and home tests that you can’t use for Test to stay, seems like a big miss. Again, why couldn’t the school nurses administer the tests? |
Nurse handed me a sheet when I walked out the door with my child. I had to download an app on my phone. All done from my phone. |
At our elementary I know some kids took tests over Zoom with the Nurse. |
At home tests are doing a remarkably poor job detecting the current covid variants. |
NP. We didn't use the test that DD brought home from school in January. Instead, I picked up a specially labeled Binax from the school, downloaded an app, did a proctored test, and sent the results to the school. It was remarkably easy, and I appreciated the fact that I didn't have to drive to any test site, or get a pediatrician appointment just to confirm a negative. |
That is great to hear. Was your kid a close contact, or did they have symptoms? Asking b/c we had to go get a doctors note earlier this week even though we tested negative for COVID with congestion. |
Only symptoms were sore throat and slight nasal drip. No fever or cough or anything like that. Was pretty much gone the next day. |
My whole family had covid over the last two weeks. Neither Binax nor the APS at home tests picked it up, even though we were all very symptomatic. Curative PCR did. |
APS is now testing kids for free at Syphax. Room 101. Walk-in all day till 7 pm. Did it today with a kid with a cold, and they uploaded results to school to clear for return. No cost. |
These doctors notes requirements have been swamping pediatric offices. Really wish schools would stop this practice. It just makes it harder for truly sick kids needing medical care to get appointments. |
Is it a rapid? |
