I know in the past, only Brentsville was allowed to have eighth graders on the JV. However, this year, it seems like more high schools have welcomed eighth graders into their JV teams. Who has experience with this during this Spring Season
I know other counties do it, but for clarity, I AM ONLY ASKING ABOUT PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY SCHOOLS |
| I believe that these 8th graders were held back and if they were actually on grade would really be in 9th grade. I think there is some Virginia state HS rule that allows these older kids to play JV. I tried looking up the rule awhile back and couldn’t find a clear policy. |
| It's up to the Athletic Directors to allow 8th graders to play. Some of the schools on the eastern side have allowed 8th graders to play JV along with Brentsville. It has been harder the past few years to field JV teams at many schools. |
WRONG. It varies school by school. It's not limited to red shirted 8th graders.
|
It’s no rule limiting it, but that’s what you will find. A kid has to be extremely mature. And this has been going on go for the last 40 years atleast. |
| The problem is that the number of athletes participating is decreasing. How do we get the country to change as a whole |
| Things trend. Some sports become more popular and some become less popular depending upon trends. |
| I wish all countys would do this. |
Arlington, Fairfax, Alexandria, etc. all let 8th graders tryout and play HS JV. I know many kids that played JV Football and soccer while in 8th grade. |
It varies by school in PWC. It often depends on the number of girls that tryout for JV. An 8th grader should not be allowed to take the spot from a freshman or sophomore trying out, but if they don't have enough girls to make a JV team than 8th graders should be able to be utilized. |
