| Is everyone really doing this on day 1? |
| within the week. not on first day. |
| Never did it. We've been here five years. Maybe if I thought the previous owners were sketchy I'd have done something like that, but they were boring middle-aged parents like ourselves and it just wasn't something we gave a thought to. |
| Didn’t do it either. Been here 25 years. |
| Another never did it. Actually I think the back door lock needed to be replaced at some point if that counts? |
| The first week. |
|
Day 1. Literally as soon as we got the keys at closing, we went straight to Home Depot for new locks.
But we bought from a psychopath, whose equally unstable adult child was extremely upset at us for buying the house (long story). A more normal transaction, probably would have done it within a week or two. |
+1 |
| When my neighbors told me they had the key. |
It's not just the previous owners you need to worry about, it's every random person they may have given a key to over the years: neighbors, family, cleaners, the dog walker, babysitter, ....... |
| We've owned three houses. Never done it. |
We did it because the sellers handed us a gallon sized ziplock bag of keys. Each door had two different keys, plus the shed, random doors, duplicate sets. I prefer to have every lock keyed the same. And we wanted keypad on a door so we don’t have to carry keys if we go out for a short walk. |
| Befor we moved in. New construction. Who knows how many people had access. |
+1 Never even occurred to me, all the previous owners seemed nice! Although if I got sketchy/psycho vibes from the previous owner I might have. |
| Day one. I bought as a single woman and didn't want to chance some stranger walking in on me. |
