GT/AAP testing

Anonymous
We're moving out of the area for a couple of years and our DS will end up missing the usual battery of in-school testing that is used to place children in the gifted programs. What can we do prior to our return to Fairfax Public Schools to see if he would qualify upon our return? How do other kids moving in from out of the area determine whether or not they should be in the gifted program?

Your child can take the CogAt or the NNAT or you can have individual testing done (i.e. the WISC IV or the Sanford Binet). You can look it up on the website.

The tests can be administered anywhere, and you can do group testing (NNAT & CogAT) or individual (WISC-IV or S-B).

If you have them administered by a private psychologist, you must also get a copy of the psychologist's state license to submit along with the scores. Check the FCPS website for application timelines before you return to FCPS.
