Can the western world effectively sanction two super powers at once over the war atrocities being committed in Ukraine?
Since US intelligence uncovered that China described its relationship with Russia as limitless and noted they had already agreed to help Russia both financially and militarily to carry out this horrific war. Putin is being hailed as a genius strategist on Chinese internet. The recent talks between US and China national security advisors did not go well. Also, I really wish that Eileen Gu would use her platform as a now prominent dual citizen of China and USA to denounce this war and to denounce China’s collusion with Russia. There are not many dual citizens as it is usually not allowed in China. The UN needs to create a new mechanism to remove UN Security Council members who are war criminals. … https://apple.news/A4DRXKjNQSkS38dbrg4m8oA WASHINGTON/BEIJING, March 17 (Reuters) - The Biden administration made a carefully orchestrated gamble this week, issuing a series of public and private threats to Beijing that it will face consequences if it supports Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The strategy was capped by a tense, seven-hour meeting in Rome on Monday between U.S. President Joe Biden's national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, and China's top diplomat Yang Jiechi. Having fired loud diplomatic salvos at Beijing, Biden administration officials are still debating the next steps to take to ensure China does not help Russia evade Western sanctions or supply weapons to Moscow as casualties mount in Ukraine. One result of the Rome meeting was announced on Thursday - Chinese President Xi Jinping will speak with Biden on Friday about "managing the competition between our two countries as well as Russia's war against Ukraine," the White House said. It is not likely to be an easy conversation. |
| I do not think the world can really afford to put the sort of blocking sanctions on China that they’ve put on Russia. And Beijing knows that. |
|
Yes we can.
We can, and we will if need be. |
The impact on the US—and global—economy would be catastrophic. |
LoL. Russia has minimal economic impact to the US and world. Their only impact is gas to Germany; but that is not even that big of a global impact. Keep in mind the economy of Russia is the same size as Spain, or Texas. Chinas economy is shaky at best right now with Covid and their currency manipulation. US can sanction China within reason; tariffs and things like that. We are not going cut them off SWIFT or anything like Russia is dealing with. |

China government has been positioning itself for world supremacy for a long time.
They've poisoned us. They've poisoned our children. The covid began there, and they allowed international flights to continue leaving Wuhan while the covid was raging in the region. They seeded the world with the covid. They did not allow international flights to enter Wuhan during that period of time. What are we waiting for? We need to end our dependency on crappy Chinese products now, which are fueling their increasing prosperity. Or we deal militarily with them down the road. That is a horror I don't even wish to contemplate. |
I’m not talking about the impact of the Russia sanctions on the world, although remember that Europe has not cut off oil and gas imports from Russia. Also remember that Russia is the world’s number 1 grain exporter and has threatened to withhold those exports. I’m also not saying we can’t sanction China at all; I’m saying we can’t sanction China to the extent we’re sanctioning Russia — which you appear to agree with. |
| China has already signaled they won't get involved on Russia's side in Ukraine. |
| I had to laugh when Russia said they were putting sanctions on Biden - as if Biden had accounts and loans with Sberbank 🤣 |
But they also won't sanction Russia the same way as NATO countries are doing. This means Russia will get whatever products and parts they need from China, did I get that right? |
They instituted a travel ban on him, so he cannot enter Russia. It’s not as though we can realistically sanction Putin’s assets. No one knows where they are. |
Yep, that’s right. |
That was before their game of charades was revealed - secretly agreeing to fund military and offset world sanctions. |
Would not recommend laughing at the criminally insane leader of Russia. He controls the majority of the world’s nukes - the US a distant second … |
Even funnier that they sanctioned his dead father instead of him |
