Onion grass everywhere in my yard!

Anonymous
Can you eat wild onions from your yard? They're growing everywhere in my yard. I know they're onions because I've dig them up and they come in bulb clusters. If you can eat them, any idea what they taste like? Sweeter or more like a green onion?

I haven't eaten them, but when you cut the grass, the smell does temporarily repel mosquitos.

Eat one and report back!

They’re probably scallions.

Mmmmmm love the smell when the lawn is mowed. I’m jealous OP!

Cut the stems and use them like regular chives/scallions.

Just wash them really well - who knows what animal has peed on it or walked over it with dirty paws/hooves (deer, raccoon, fox, dog, cats).

Pfff, wait until you learn about ag runoff and all of the manure sprayed on the produce you eat from the grocery store.

They're chives. I use them! They're great on eggs.

I hire a lawn guy to use a shovel to dig them out.
