FYI for those in or considering ES immersion programs. They are expanding MS immersion from 4 to 8 schools. (The formatting is weird because it was copied from a table.)

Thanks for sharing this. Do you know when this will be officially released?

Not OP, but we got a note through ParentVue this weekend. Our child is currently in 4th grade immersion.

That's great! It makes sense for mcps to concentrate full immersion at Westland, and then giving the half-day twi immersion students a path at SSIMS

Current "full immersion" is only two classes in MS, correct? How many classes do current TWI MS programs have?

We got it in an email from our ES. I don’t see it posted on the MCPS website yet.

So RCF spanish immersion kids in the down county consortium can no longer go to SSIMS if it isn't their home school?

I know WT Page and Burnt Mills aren't well represented on this Board, but I can't imagine that a shift to White Oak MS from SSIMS is considered a win.

Why not? People have been asking MCPS to expand the programs, and this would be much closer.

At schools (like Shannon) that already have the TWI in MS. How does this work?

I know OWI immersion is only 2 classes. How many classes for TWI? It seems like in these schools where most kids aren't in immersion (like Newport Mill for example), it could be hard to juggle schedules around cohorting for TWI, electives, and then enriched classes.

SSIMS currently has some kids from TWI and some from OWI for Spanish, and I don’t think they distinguish the groups. My kids are in French, so all from OWI, so I’m not sure. For FI, they have 3 of 8 periods in French - 2 are French language and then world studies is also taught in French. Because of this, they only get one elective instead of 2 (and therefore get a slight preference for their first choice elective), but they are able to schedule around the French classes and the non-FI classes have a mix of immersion and non-immersion students.
