Anyone solid students that did not get into Field or Burke?

Anonymous
If so, do you believe it is because the school did not think you would enroll?
Anonymous
Perhaps. They want a high yield. Also they might have been flooded with applications this year. Don't take it personally at all!

Yes, DD did not get accepted and is a solid student. Non-entry grade though.

Got in but wasn't given FA, so they couldn't have been too surprised when we declined.

How do you define “solid students”. I bet it’s the same way many parents describe their kid. It’s a competitive market for all private schools right now. They can be picky.

A while ago but when I asked they said my kid didn't seem to want be at Field. (Good student but socially anxious so does not interview well)

Yes, and not sure why not.

Did you call to inquire how the application could have been stronger?
But all schools only have a limited number of spots .

Schools know when they are a “safety”. There is not a good reason for them to provide admission.

Field was our kid’s top choice for 9th grade and probably ours too. Mostly a straight A student with a handful of small stumbles, great extracurriculars and recognitions. We thought our interview with the school went well. He is a bit shy - so no telling how he did. He did tell them it was his top choice.

We were really impressed by the school and thought it was the best fit for him. Maybe we underestimated how competitive it would be, but we (and he) were quite sad when he was not even waitlisted - just not admitted.

I’d call them and ask why and re-express interest. Applications were indeed high but the kid you described should get into Field unless there was something unique about the application or, as a PP pointed out, they thought they were a safety.

I know it’s overused advice on this forum, but their admissions office is very “human” and would take well to hearing that, if admitted, you’d enroll.

I'd call them tomorrow and have an honest conversation expressing your sincere disappointment and ask why, explain that you would have accepted if offered a spot and ask if they would consider the application in the second round after March 18th or next year.

^^^You have nothing to lose!

Burke definitely doesn't take everyone.

I think it is like job hunting and dating. You don't get a job or a second call from your date not necessarily because you are not "solid" or a good person. It is a matter of fit in many cases.
