Is Aldi cheaper than Costco?

Food costs are rising and I’m trying to save money. Is Aldi cheaper than Costco?

Aldi's and Costco are nothing alike. Go to an Aldi's and decide if you want to do your regular shopping there.

Aside from the size of the unit, food is still food isn’t it? Wanted to know if Aldi’s is cheaper by the unit.

I would say yes.

Overall, Yes. But they have very different brands and products.

Absolutely! If you compare unit price Aldi takes the win over Walmart, Costco, and Sams. There are several videos on YouTube comparing meat, vegetables, and perishable unit prices between the stores.

My vote is Aldi’s.

Yes but the Costco quality is much higher especially for produce.

Aldiheads will say yes.

Yes. But depending on your preferences, style of cooking, you may not be able to shop exclusively at Aldi.

For example, Costco has good meat, for a reasonable price. Aldi has adequate meat for cheap. I prefer to buy meat at Costco, but I buy produce, dairy, bakery, and pantry staples at Aldi.

Also, and I say this without judgment: I do a lot of “from scratch” cooking (in a Safeway, I would shop the periphery, except for some pantry items—broth, flour, spices, etc). My mom does a lot of “shortcut” cooking (she buys a lot of stuff like stouffers, jarred sauces, or “meal in a box”). Aldi is better for the former. My husband says it’s cheap food for people who know how to cook.

Finally, I don’t drink soda. If you are a soda drinker, and you are picky about your brand of Diet Coke-like soda, you may not be satisfied with Aldi.

But IRL most people end up throwing away at least some of their Costco produce since items are sold in such large quantities that they often go bad faster than a regular sized family can finish them. So that makes it a wash.

Aldi is like a cheaper version of Trader Joes. I think they actually belong to the same company.

Aldi meat is gross.

It’s like Trader Joe’s and five below had a baby.

I do the majority of my grocery shopping from Aldi, with Costco as a close second. I appreciate Aldi because you can get Costco prices, but not have to commit to the much larger amounts. While there have been some items I don’t like from Aldi, the vast majority of their products are great! Some people are snobbish about it, so that might affect their perception. I admit some Aldi’s are better than others, but a clean, well-stocked Aldi is a thing of beauty!
