What does "8-ish" or any other time followed with ISH mean?

When someone says, "Yes, you can pick up your child around 8-ish" what does that really mean?

For me, it means give or take 15 minutes (or so).

It means closer to 8 than to 7 or 9. so, from 7:45 to 8:15 or even a little later... you'd be pusing it to arrive at 8:30 though.

Basically they mean, it's not important to get there exactly at 8, they have some leeway.

OP was the person who came at 8:54 British by chance? 8-ish to them means anywhere between 8 and 9.

I wouldn't arrive before 8. People generally have last minute preparations.

If I'm invited to someone's house for drinks at "8-ish", I wouldn't show up before because I don't think they would be ready yet. I would aim for 8:15-8:30. Now, if someone told me to pick up my kid at "8-ish", I would think about 10-15 minutes on either side.
