Best swimming instruction for swim team prep

So Goldfish is NOT it. Looking for a program my 7 year old could start now to be prepared for a summer league.

Does the summer team offer a pre team program? I would do that if so.

Fairfax County rec has a program that is good enough for that age.

Curious parent who just signed up two kids for goldfish, what's your issue with goldfish?

Not OP, but my summer league runs a winter swim program that amps up in the Spring to get the kids ready for the team. Goldfish is fine for getting kids to a rudimentary level of swimming and floating but does not go beyond that and oftentimes does not focus on the foundations for competitive swimming (streamline, rotational breathing, hand/finger placement, etc). So we oftentimes take our Goldfish kids and put them back into our lesson program during the summer because they are not ready.

They run an outdoor spring program (perfect for MCSL prep) at Old Farm Pool as well as an indoor program at Georgetown Prep.

They do but I dropped the ball and they don't have the lane space. So now trying to find something on the outside.

Both Arlington county and Arlington public schools offer swim instruction but the classes fill up quickly, especially at the new swim facility. Arlington public schools offers twice weekly lesson classes so that may work well for your DC to train. Instructors are inconsistent but lessons are cheap for practice time.

Supplement with a few private swim lessons for right form.

OP definitely find a program that is at least two days a week. One day a week will not allow for progression.

Are you in NoVa? York has a swim school program at Yorktown that is exactly what you are looking for. Twice a week, instructors in the pool giving personalized instruction but aimed toward getting kids onto a “real” swim team.

My kindergartener has loved it and can now do 3 of 4 strokes legally for 25Y. They even had a cute little practice meet a couple weekends ago - introduced the starter system, lots of encouragement and silly little prizes. I really can’t recommend it enough.

I only see a swim team site. Is there a link?

Registration isn’t open at the moment. Late June I think it opens? This link shows the existence of the program: https://www.teamunify.com/RegGroupSelectOne.jsp?showonly=1®id=80262 . You can always email to get more info and the exact registration date.

We just joined the Y and I am pretty happy with what my 7 year old is learning in her class there. They have a set of levels and she is learning proper stroke technique, perfect for swim team.
