| Is this a thing for DCPS? When I was a kid in the dark ages they had something called kindergarten round up where you went to your school, got acclimated, maybe met a teacher or a potential friend. Do they have anything similar for DCPS, or do they just assume kids might be familiar with the school already if they are in PK3/4? |
|
I would like to know the same. My in-bounds kid didn't get 'in' for Pk4 at our in bounds elementary because of demand/sibling preference/etc. It's a HUGE school and he's coming from a tiny preschool. I as a parent have never set foot in the school. It would be really helpful for a smooth transition if we could visit at some point this summer before school starts!

| They don't call it a roundup, but there are usually some intro playdates. Some schools do teacher home visits too. |
| Everyone breate! Generally there are meetups planned with new students as well as meeting the teacher before school starts. But its going to depend on the school -- and it won't be until LATE summer. |
+1 Nothing will happen in terms of meet-ups, playdates, etc. until about a week before school starts. You get teacher assignments shortly before that. You won't hear from the school at all until August. |
| Not sure this happens everywhere but PTOs often host some summer play dates. |
| Our school has a number of playdates throughout the summer (I think through PTO), and the school had big registration parties, and then right before school, you could come in to the class and see the class and meet the teachers. EOTP Title 1 DCPS. |
Ours does this too, though it could be the same school. Keep an eye on the school’s (or PTA’s) social media, that’s where they’ll announce it. |
