apartment carpet question

maybe this is silly but can you ask your land lord to clean apartment for you(not by himself but to get a company)...we are renting the same place for over 2 years and the carpets are so filthy...thanks

You can ask them for anything. But....is the carpet filthy because of you, or did you inherit it in that condition? You can get a company to come clean it pretty cheaply, like $100 for 3 rooms or something.

I agree with the PP. If the carpet is filthy because you made it filthy, then you should clean it yourself.

we are in that pllace for over two yers so it is dirty because of us but also it was not super clean before..thanks

If you try, phrase it in terms of the fact that a lot of rentals only last a year and then get fully cleaned. So you are only asking him to do what he would do if you left. Maybe you could offer to split the cost. It benefits him to not have the carpet continue to get worse.

I have been renting my apt for 6 years and my carpet is clean, everybody has to take off their shoes before coming inside. That is my rule and it works fine. I think the landlord has to clean it but I am not sure after how many years.

great help, thanks
ps. we do take off shoes etc.and ask people (maintnance for ex. to do the same) but still the carpet is just dirty...I guess a toddler, mom, and dad can make it very dirty

You can ask, and if I were your landlord I might just do it, but I think its really your responsibility...

Are you required to deep clean the carpets before you leave? If so, you do it... whether on your own or get a company to do it.

Otherwise, you do the best you can (vacuum, spot clean, etc) and they will hopefully deep clean it before they rent it out to someone else.
