Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
| Has anyone had to transition from swaddling their infant to unswaddling? My girls are really struggling with being unswaddled. I have been trying to gradually introduce it but so far it has been really hard for them. |

Swaddle 'til you can't swaddle anymore is my motto. They eventually become too strong and big for it to be done effectively anyway, which usually corresponds with when their neurological systems have developed enough for them to tolerate being unswaddled.

I transitioned to a sleep sack when DD was 6 months old... I actually did it at the same time as sleep training.
Rough for a few nights but then she didn't seem to miss it. |
| I swaddled until 6 or so months. After that, I would still swaddle sometimes if she was especially cranky. I agree with PP about swaddle until you can't swaddle! |
| I'm a big fan of swaddling, up to 9 months or whenever they outgrow it. Try the Miracle Blanket, which allows for older babies to be swaddled without wiggling out of it. It truly is a miracle! We swaddled both babies for their naps until they were about 7 months, and overnight only when they were fussy and couldn't sleep. It's a wonderful comfort for them (and for us mamas too). When you're ready to wean them, try leaving out one limb at a time, for about a week, and then add another. Or just let them wean themselves. Good luck! |
