If your HS kid doesn’t use a locker

DD doesn’t have one and from what I have read on DCUM that is pretty common. She plays an instrument which she is able to drop off in the music room in the morning so she isn’t carrying it around all day. But what about kids who play a sport like tennis or field hockey? Do they use their assigned lockers, or a gym locker? Carry the stick or racket with them all day? I told her to ask about it today but figured I’d ask here as well.

Kids who play a sport drop their gear in the "team room" which is a locked room within the locker room. They are also assigned a gym locker to use during PE. Many kids leave larger items in a teachers room for the day as well.

My DS doesn't have an assigned regular locker. He plays football and keeps/drops off his equipment in his gym locker before school. This is one reason he won't wear a jacket to school. He doesn't want to carry it around all day since there's nowhere to put it.

My kid drops off her gym bag in the AM at her locker and returns to retrieve it at the end of the day. Sports practice usually doesn't start until a good 30+ min after school ends so she has plenty of time to get to her locker after her last class

Athletes leave their equipment and bags in the locker room or a coach’s classroom. Musicians leave their instruments in the music room. Other club kids leave their gear in the sponsor’s room.

I don’t know how efficient or secure it is, but with no assigned lockers in our high school, that’s just the way it has to be.

Middle and high students don't use lockers anymore. Lockers are a feature of a time gone by. Schools should remove lockers and replace them with long work tables and phone recharging stations for students to use. That would be much more useful to 21st-Century students.

Once they drive to school everything is kept in the car. Everything.

Kid leaves her FH stuff in her sports locker or in the sports shed by the field (which is locked).

Why no lockers anymore? Because no textbooks?

They don’t hold everything. Backpacks don’t fit and they don’t have time in between classes. I’m public there’s no room to even get in on

My kid ran track and they did not have their own locker room. Runners requested and were assigned lockers that were the closest to the gym. Since so few kids use lockers the school was fine with it.

The school did remove large sections of lockers during Covid to allow new spaces for kids to eat.

Wrestlers put their bags in the wrestling room. Which is for the best given how those shoes smell.

My middle schoolers and all of their friends use lockers fyi. Think it's more a high school thing not too, which is a bummer since one of my best memories of high school is hanging with friends between each class at our lockers, decorating them, checking make-up with those tiny magnetic mirrors, etc.

Yes it’s a HS thing. The MS requires kids to use lockers. HS does not and my DC in HS says no one uses them. In Moco

My DD never used a locker after middle school - I thought it was bizarre at the time but she managed.
