We moved to the area during the pandemic and I have been quite ill for most of the last two years. I’m immune compromised and I haven’t been to an in-person mass since 2020. I do pray every day and in some ways I feel my spiritual life is more authentic now than before. But lately I’ve felt like I wish I could return to in-person mass, and especially as tomorrow is Ash Wednesday. Can anyone tell me if people are still wearing masks at Holy Trinity? I tried calling the office but the person who answered the phone seemed annoyed by the question. Masks are such a hot-button issue and I’m really not trying to start a debate, I’m just trying to get information about how many people are wearing masks at mass these days.
I’d also be grateful to learn about any other parishes that are in DC or close in MD where masks are consistently worn during mass. Please don’t get angry at the question. Please don’t tell me what you think about the effectiveness of masks. You aren’t in my situation and I’m not asking you to change your behavior for me. I’m just trying to get some information. |
| I’m a parishioner at Trinity and attended Mass for Ash Wednesday today. I saw less than 5 people without masks. Everybody else had masks or N95s on. The church was full, too, for what it’s worth. |
Good to know. Meanwhile, I'd say to OP -- wear your mask wherever you want to. A good mask is very protective of the wearer of the mask, assuming you do not engage in close-up conversations with unmasked people. At Christmas day mass at the shrine, everyone was masked and did nods and elbow bumps for the "peace". I didn't get Covid and never considered it to be a threat. |
| At St Camillus in Silver Spring they are very COVID safe and 100% masking. I hope you find a space you feel welcomed and safe, OP. |
