| MCPS did not conduct COGAT test for eight graders for last 2 years, it there a possibility they can have it for 2022-2023 year? OR they have completely removed it from the selection process? |
I think the official answer is "who the heck knows?" |
+1 There’s definitely a possibility, but I doubt a final decision on the selection process has been made. |

Kids are preparing for sports, SAT ,ACT, interviews , essays and so many other things. Even though classes are available, kids are putting the effort to learn.
I am surprised when parents get upset because kids are preparing for this test. |

^How does this document apply to the HS magnet application?
Also, I have heard of the Grade 2 gifted screening but what are the screenings for 3rd, 5th and 7th? |
I think it's to screen kids who weren't identified at earlier grade levels. We moved here when DC was in 4th, and they were ID'd as gifted as part of the 5th grade screen. I don't think you need to rescreen later if your kid was already identified. |
| ^Thanks! Makes sense. |
Everyone who checked the MCPS website knows... |
This year’s HS Magnet admission info hasn’t been posted yet. From last year’s FAQ, I see: “The decision to continue with the previous year’s admission model to use multiple measures (absent the CogAT) was made within the best interests of students and the current learning environment. This process is reviewed annually.” https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Fme3A_qXyT_VdXSH2D5KJ0eUEpHLK5naMMSgLmO4BFU/edit?usp=sharing Where do you see info about this year’s HS process? |

*Due to the pandemic, the decision has been made to not collect teacher recommendations and not administer the CogAT for applicants entering high school in the 2022-23 school year. |
Students entering high school in the 2022-23 school year (this year) applied last year, in the 2021-22 school year. No info has come out yet for this year’s 8th graders, who will be entering high school in the 2023-24 school year. |
