Speeding ticket on LIDAR

Anonymous
I just got a speeding ticket this morning for going 10 miles over the limit in a residential area (Virginia). The officer didn't even let me ask any questions, pretty much just handing me the ticket. The ticket says lidar. I don't actually think it is correct, there was a car in front of me going very quickly....is it possible for the LIDAR to get the wrong car? I don't want to go to court if there's no chance of making any argument against LIDAR so wanted to see if anyone bhas dealt with something similar.

They actually point it at your vehicle and get the reading. It’s not sweeping across the lanes.

LIDAR is a essentially a laser, not a spreading flashlight “beam” like radar. The device has an optical sight with crosshairs similar to a gun scope. There is zero chance the officer confused you and another vehicle when they lased your car.

Pay the ticket and slow the F’ down in neighborhoods. People live here. We have kids, pets, people walking across the street to chat with a neighbor. We don’t need you zipping through at 35+ mph.

You don't think you were going 35+mph? Lol. Ok.

Sounds like someone got caught doing 40 + on Chain Bridge Road. Pay the ticket. You're busted!

No, this was not on chain bridge road. It was in my neighborhood. And no, I don't think I was going 35 mph. I actually set an alert on my car so I don't go over the limit and have never gotten a ticket of any sort in 30+ years of driving. But it sounds like the laser is considered infallible so it's not worth questioning it.
