Changed hair texture?

Anonymous
My daughter’s hair changed dramatically after puberty. We’re Asian and hee hair was stick straight before and then almost overnight became wavy/curly. My sister’s hair did the same thing but she’s in her 40s and it seemed to happen in her 30s. Has anyone else had this happen and was the change permanent or did the previous hair texture return?
The only change I’m experiencing, unfortunately, is loss of hair lol.

I don’t think anyone can predict what your daughter’s hair is going to do. It’s really an individual thing.

I went from a warm blond with straight hair to warm brunette with curly hair almost overnight with puberty.

This is pretty common I think. My (white) DS2 had very fine, loose curls until puberty, then his hair became much more coarse and his curls are very corkscrew now. In menopause, I've gone in the opposite direction-- from very curly hair (think Sarah Jessica Parker in her younger days) to looser waves. (However, I didn't have the puberty change--my hair was corkscrew curly from a very young age.)

My DH went from white blond with straight hair to dark brown waves over the course of a few months in 9th grade.

Happened to me! I then spent 10 years trying to straighten the hell out of it. Thank goodness I learned about curly/wavy styling.

I realize that. I merely asked about other people’s experiences. Thanks to those who shared. I just found it fascinating to see it happen.

My hair is much thicker and a tad wavier after having kids. Does that count? I’m 35.

it is caused by hormones and it is likely permanent.

Yes my hair became very curly at puberty, especially the back and underneath layers, and has stayed virtually the same since.
