Can you apply to TJ from private school?

Are the odds just as good if so?

Under the new but (according to the latest federal court ruling, discriminatory and unconstitutional) admission system the private school kids can only compete for 150/550 spots in the "open" merit pool. In old system, private school kids could compete in the full 450 spots along with all county students, but the private school kids had to compete in the test and the second round of written essays just like the public school children

In regular years, TJ was about 10-15% private school admits. Last year only 6-7 kids from private schools.

6 to 7 because of the equity thing?

Private school can be a disadvantage due to class size. When splitting hairs 2nd of 5 isn't as impressive as 2nd of 30. The private school kid lost out to the public school kid. (True story)

The number was 15 from private and homeschool for the initial offers - so about 3%.

Why do you say that? TJ does not represent the entire school district

And with the new process being g allowed to continue at least for now, i would anticipate similar results for private school applicants
