Expectant and Postpartum Moms
Any opinions on these two doctors and practices? Anyone who has experience with both and can compare them? Thanks!
I really like Berger-Weiss. I have no experience with Dr. Sine so I wouldn't be able to compare. Berger-Weiss is very straight forward and blunt. I really like her no non-sense approach. This coming for a worrywart - I sometimes need someone to tell me that I need to stop worrying about things and the reasons why... she does that. I also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Travers, who is at the same practice. He is one of the most caring doctors I have ever met. I had a semi-tramatic birth with my first and for my second C-Section he held my hand and assured me as I was getting my epidural that everything was going to be fine and reasons why.
Love Berger-Weiss and the practice (Travers, Levitt, Seidel)

I do not like Dr. Berger-Weiss. She was my doctor for my induction, and she was terrible. She has the reputation among doulas around here (I found out right before I was induced) of liking to "manage" the birth. So when she wanted to break my water less than 2 hours after being induced, she got very uptight and said, "Is this an induction, or is this an induction?" and then stormed out of the room. And then stormed out of the room again when she came back to ask about it and I told her I needed a little more time, she stormed out again. She didn't feel warm at all. I don't need or want touchy-feely, but I do want someone who will respect me more than she did. I am not going back to this practice because of her and one other inexperienced doctor at this practice.
BUT Dr. Travers is wonderful. He is so nice and warm and reassuring. When I had a complication develop in my 3rd trimester, he handled it very well -- told me things like the worry doesn't stop after the baby's born and that you only get one first pregnancy, so don't let a complication ruin it. He said these things in a nice way. I also really like Dr. Seidel and the other doctor at the practice (whose name I can't remember). Seidel is blunt, too, without being cold and condescending like Berger-Weiss. |
Thank you all. I will probably have a second C-section, so please factor that in (if it matters) when you consider your recommendations.
Ant-B-W here... OK, if you're going to have a 2nd c-section, then you can choose which doctor you want and don't have to rotate seeing doctors in the practice ... in that case, I would check out the Travers/B-W/Seidel practice. You can always go and then try Sine too. Or, go to appts with both practices and see who you like. At the B-W practice, all doctors have very different personalities, and I bet you could find one that you like. Like I said, I love Travers and Seidel. I'm sure B-W is a great doctor for c-sections, but I wouldn't want to deal with her personality during pregnancy (I actually only had one appt with her before being induced and she seemed a little controlling, which I didn't pay enough attention to).
Which Dr. Sine are you referring to?
I thought Berger-Weiss was wonderful. She did both of my scheduled c-sections. She is very straightforward, but very nice too. She really put me at ease, and I always felt very confident in her abilities. Dr. Travers (performed my first son's circumcision) is great too, but I prefer a female ob/gyn. No experience with Dr. Sine. If I go for a third, B-W will be who I return to.
