DD is almost fully daytime and nighttime potty trained, and she has no accidents for a few days. I notice that she likes to touch her front private part at potty time and bathtime, and her pee has been medium or dark yellow. Does she hold her pee for too long or does she drink not enough fluid? And, she also wipes very rough with a toilet paper at the front. Sometimes she says it hurts, but I don't see any infection and she acts normally. Should I still aquaphor to her front part even though she wears Underwear? I used to put aquaphor on her diaper area. I don't see diaper rash but her front private part skin not smooth and in darker color than other skin part, not sure if because she likes to touch it or wipe too rough with toilet paper....
And, I think she is holding poos. I mean, other than pushing her to drink more fluid and eat more fruit, is there anything I can do? |
| Give fruit with every meal. Fruit is hydration and fiber. Teach her to wipe more gently. |

It's a vulva. Using accurate names for body parts is beneficial to kids.
Pee should not be that color. She probably doesn't drink enough. Dark yellow is a bit alarming. PP is correct that you can get hydration through fiber, but of course there is also milk, water, and even diluted juice if you're careful with her teeth and she doesn't get too accustomed to sugary drinks. It's okay for kids to touch themselves. They're exploring their bodies and learning about them. |

My kiddo hates drinking water and would get constipated, so we buy those flavor drops for water to make it taste like juice. That’s helped a ton.
Touching themselves is normal, I remember when DD did swimming classes at age 2-3, all the girls would touch their vulvas as soon as the swimsuits came off. Once she was older (maybe around 5-6) we taught her that it’s okay to touch yourself but to do it in private in her own room. DD also said her vulva hurt sometimes, I think most of it was from learning how to wipe and either wiping to rough, or not doing a good job at wiping so urine was left. It cleared up once she got older and better at wiping. If you’re concerned, talk to her pediatrician. |
| This is OP. Thank you. I will look into getting her hydrated with more fluid, and I also think that she wipes herself too rough. |
| I would teach her the wiping is a dab, not a wipe. Also make sure she has access to water all day long. And it's from front to back so she doesn't get any poop in her urethra. |
To help with the poos, I suggest prune puree (e.g. Plum Organics Stage 1 Organic Baby Food, Prune Puree, 3.5 Ounce Pouch) |
