How early to get to Dulles these days for an international flight?

Adults plus kids flying this weekend mid-morning to Jamaica. We have all our docs in order and have uploaded them to the United app and been approved. We are checking bags. Planning on getting there the usual 2 hours early, but should I plan for more time?

We take the red-eye to Europe and arrive 3 hours early, to get in a quick dinner before the flight. Sometimes, we don't have time for dinner if TSA takes too long / the airport is unusually crowded, so it's a built-in safety margin.

Same here. It’s been quick and swift for us recently.

Just went thru last week. All of 10 minutes. This was for a 5:00 flight midweek.

Same question but will it be crazy this week with spring break?

Same question for an 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning international flight. We have TSA pre-check. Two adults and two teenagers. We’re planning on the normal two hours but would be thrilled to hear that we could shave it down to 90 minutes given the ungodly hour….

We just had a similar trip on United. If you have United status and tsa pre for security, it’s very quick (as in through security 20 minutes after arrival). If no United status, the check in line was long. We had checked in online but they needed to verify our negative COVID tests for the destination even though they were in thr app. Even with the long line, 2 hours is plenty

Can you get TSA pre-check or Global entry if you're on a visa or green card?

For Global Entry, yes, green card holders can, and well as citizens of some countries.

For Precheck, only US residents and green card holders.

Thanks. My country is not on the list. We'll have to wait to get our green card.

Agree-- if you can get your boarding passes by preloading your passport it's just a question of how quickly you can check your bags and get through security, and status and pre-check help with those. I think 90-120 mins would be ok especially if you are not flying at peak (for Dulles) hours (which I think is mostly the late afternoon?)

Our flight leaves at 10pm. Is that a busy time for international flights?
