APS - Tell me about MS and HS science

Anonymous
My kid is currently in 4th and LOVES science but is sad because none of his friends like science. It seems like all the work they do in science is on the ipad, which seems ridiculous since science could be (should be) hands on. My kid told his science teacher he no longer wants to work on the ipad and has now been doing all his projects on poster board. Anyway, just wondering if MS and HS science have more hands on activity or if it is going to be all ipad based.

Science definitely gets better in middle and high school. My science-loving DD also lamented the lack of it in ES. If I recall correctly, 6th grade tends to have more earth science concepts, life science in 7th, physical science in 8th. They do science projects and labs.

I think in ES it really depends on the school/teacher. Our science teacher has been amazing and everything they seem to do is very hands-on. My kids love her class.

That is great! I wish we had this 😕

More hands on activities in ms, with all the AP classes with labs he can handle in HS.

Middle school is still fairly easy and has the more fun aspect too it.

Once you get to high school, then it becomes a bit more real and there is far more math involved especially when you are talking about the more advanced courses.

I think that is why there is such a drop off in interest in science. In the younger years, they spend so much time do fun little experiments and kids think they want to pursue science but then they find out how much math is involved and how it's not cute experiments and the interest kind of wanes.
