Please consider signing our open letter to encourage the state to provide recommendations that will allow parents to opt their toddlers out of mask requirements: https://twitter.com/savethetotsva?fbclid=IwAR0J95p5ePI9hzV9qV5uoDpiMfzhZ0NaYwAuekNtj6rWZj5xhGhzGLFcvFA |
I agree in principle, but this stinks like astroturfing to me. Save the Tots quotes Steve Bannon’s preferred news source, the National Source. For real?
Not signing this. I’m all for relaxing mandatory guidance, but many daycares and preschools are private or run by parent boards. They are going to do what they want, which is what their parents want, and most parents are still leaning toward caution and doing whatever it takes to keep the doors open right now. |
Please consider not signing it to protect all the kids in the classroom. |
Someone who knows so little about child development that they use the word "toddler" to mean "kids under 5" probably shouldn't be making child development advice up. You're killing your argument with your inaccuracy. |
There’s already no mask mandate in VA |
THIS There's never been a mask mandate for children under 5 in VA. That decision has always been left up to the preschools and daycares, nearly all of which are privately owned. |
+1. What the heck? |
I dont know, but these boards are riddled with posts from people who seem to think that Virginia mandated masks for ALL children, regardless of age. That was never the case. It is almost as if someone is trying to invent an issue where one doesn't actually exist. |
We KNOW there is no mandate. We want the state to force private businesses to also offer optional. We want their licensing to be conditional on parent choice. |
Huh? You want the state to tell a private business that they cannot require masks? What business are you specifically worried about? Why not just patronize somewhere else that doesn’t require masks for under fives? |
Not OP (or any other PP) but I thought the term toddler was the correct one for kids 2-4. I have certainly seen that in practice. Admittedly that has always seemed a little odd to me and poking around further now I see a lot of people instead use the term "preschooler" for a 4 year old, which, ok. But anyway I don't know that this is the angle to go after OP on. |
BECAUSE THERE ARE NO SECULAR OPTIONS IN NORTH ARLINGTON. I don't want my three year old masked 8 hours a day but I DO want him in preschool! |
DP. So you want the state to force private schools/organizations to allow “parents’ choice”…but I’m assuming you would not be ok with the state forcing mandatory masking on private organizations, correct? Keyword here is “private”…state shouldn’t really be enforcing anything. |
In the childcare world, toddler is a word for kids who have started to walk and have not yet turned 2 and are not asked to mask anywhere. Colloquially it includes 2 year olds. 3 and 4 year olds are not toddlers. |
A private business has the right to decide for themselves. If you don't like it find a new day care. Nice to hear they are being safe. |
