Advice on where to take disgusting glider cushions to get cleaned

Anonymous
I'd happily wash them myself, but the back and seat cushion covers for my Dutailier glider don't have zippers. So I guess what I need to do is take them to a dry cleaner. And recommendations on where I should take them in DC? I'd like to even take the top of the ottoman with me to get cleaned...that it is basically a cushion attached to a piece or board. Would a cleaner accept that? Thanks all.

You could rent one of the steam cleaners from Safeway with Upolstery attachments. I think that would work better than dry cleaning.

If you don't want to mess with it you could also call a carpet/upolstery cleaning service like STanly Steamer or somthing. It's pretty cheap.

I tried to find a place to clean my disgusting Dutailier cushions, and the three drycleaners I tried wouldn't take them, although one said they would do it but they would have to cut the covers off and then sew them back on. I thought about calling a place like Stanley Steamer since they do upholstry. Ours were really bad, though, so I ended up just buying new cushions. I noticed someone posted this week about having new covers made in the Off Topic forum, and she got some decent responses.

I just put mine in the washing machine! I have a front loader, so they fit easily (I did them in two batches). I was going to order new ones if it didn't work, but it did -- beautifully. (I was a little disappointed because I couldn't justify new ones that I had picked out).
My ottoman cushion unsnapped from the metal or wood piece, so I was able to wash it too. If you can't I would say use a sponge, warm water and woolite and just wash it by hand and let it dry in the sun.

I posted a while back asking if people had washed theirs, and got several responses from moms who had successfully put them in the washing machine like the PP.

13:28 here. Yes, definitely try the washer first. I did, and it helped, but mine were apparently really disgusting so it didn't even come close to getting the stains out.

We used this company

last week to come and steam clean our sectional sofa and carpets. They did a great job, even getting pen marks out of the sofa cushions. Now it looks like we have a brand new sofa.

We have used Heaven's Best to come clean carpets and furniture (including getting diaper cream off a couch). If anyone can get out a stain, they can do it. They do a nice job on rugs as well.

Mine weren't "disgusting" but there were a bit grubby and I also washed them in the washing machine (regular, not front loading) as well as the cover on the footstool cushion.

Ironically, the the back/seat cushion cover (had to wash the whole cushion since it wasn't removable) came out really well and the footstool cushion cover (which was removable) got all frayed and ratty after going thru the washer.

But in any event, they both came clean.

If you don't have a front-loader (or upright without an agitator), I would soak them in the bathtub in laundry detergent and a bit of oxy-clean, scrub them with a brush, and rinse. Then put them outside on a nice dry, sunny day to dry.

I bought a used Dutailier from Craig's list and wanted to get the cushions recovered or buy replacement cushions and it all was adding up to a lot of $. I was having my carpets cleaned and since they also do upholstery, asked if they'd do it. It turned out beautifully. I use Diamond cleaners and highly recommend them.

FYI, the cushions have some plastic in them. I am going to take the plastic out and put them in the dryer on an air setting, since we are in winter, leaving them in the sun to dry won't work. Wish me luck!

I also thought my ottoman cushion was permanently attached. However, it is just extremely strongly velcroed to the board, and to my surprise there is a zipper underneath
