| We are contemplating building a new car and just waiting (I know it could take long time). Does the salesperson still get a commission?? |
| What do you mean building? like a kit car? Or do you mean picking out the options you want? If the latter, then yes, they earn commission. |
|
Yes, building a new car on the manufactures website in order to get what I want. Asking because the salesman has been way less interested in us after we told him we would do this. The cars currently available (which he is anxious to sell) lack some of the options we want.
I figured he would get some commission but guess he'd have to wait until the car is delivered (which could be months) or I thought maybe he gets less $$ than he would if he sold a car on their lot. |
| Yes, they still get paid. Ford actually gives you an extra 1500 off the order. You're not ordering from the manufacturer, you're ordering from the dealer (unless tesla in which case the sales people are all salaried anyway) |
No, worse. The salesman may not be there to collect the commission since they have very high turnover. |
| Yes, its the same as a sale but he only gets the money at the time of the actual purchase (when the car comes in). We always build what we want. |
| The sales person concept is stupid the cars are online |
| Guys can we just say “order” a car? We’re not “building” anything here. |
You actually are. You are having a car custom-built. Most orders are for specifications that wouldn't otherwise exist on the dealer lot, especially for rarer cars where they may only receive two or three the entire year equipped with the most popular package combinations |
| We always do this and have never had any issue, but we’ve used the same salesmen for decades. Maybe if there is high turnover, a new guy wouldn’t like it. Ask to speak to a manager. |
A sandwich is custom built for me. I still order it. |
Yep- had a similar experience. Once I indicated that I didn’t want the model that they had on the lot (weird color, no sunroof) the salesman suddenly became very disinterested. I think it was in part because it was mid-December and it wouldn’t count as a 2021 sale for year end bonuses. |
We had this often with our last car. We had to go to multiple dealers. |
| This also depends heavily on the brand of car. Some cars that are more typically ordered, such as BMW and MB, versus ones that are not, such as Toyota. They have different incentive structures. |
Certain manufacturers allow you to build a car to your personal likes/specifications. |
