So, the foundations funding DCPS teachers' salaries could pull out if Rhee is no longer chancellor. She is a creative on, a real piece of work. |
Well, I'm not exactly a fan of Rhee. But I am sure this requirement is the foundations. They are funding a specific mission, not just giving handouts to DC. If the plan changes, they will want to pull out. Who can blame them? If you were a foundation, would you want to throw money down the drain of the DCPS without regard to how it is used? No.
For better or worse, Rhee has convinced these foundations that her agenda is worth them investing money in DC. That, not undirected charity, is the reason they put the money in. And the foundations have every right to protect that investment. |
I agree that this is a standard condition for foundation funding, so the foundations should not be blamed.
However, this whole thing has turned into a circus. It now appears that Rhee pressured Gandhi to remove the first school cfo who told her she was overspending on the central office. Then Rhee pressured Gandhi to hire the guy who apparently gave her the wrong information about the teachers' average salaries and who also withheld information from Gandhi about a budget shortfall at DCPS. But she wants to blame everything on Gandhi. She keeps making novice mistake after novice mistake and according to her, it's always someone else's fault. |
Sounds like the Rhee. |
The foundation(s) may be within their rights to give money for specific desired results, but I don't think it should be acceptable for the City to accept such money. We may be required by law to accept that kind of treatment from Congress, but we have the right to give the foundations the same response Jon Stewart gave Fox News: "Go f--- yourself!"
Don't forget that the money they offered is not much more than it takes to support one embezzling employee. And who knows how much of it Sinclair Skinner would walk off with. |
Rhee is doing herself no favors, which is really too bad for DC, because I think her agenda is desperately needed. Tenure seems crazy and outdated, but then again I'm not a union employee and so really fail to see why tenure is at all appropriate for anyone not teaching college where freedom to research and publish various opininons is critical. It has no place in the schools where if the principal thinks a certain curriculm approach is best - within the school system guidelines - then they in the world should teachers not be doing that?
Rhee's ideas are good and the teacher's union should be ashamed for fighting this as hard they have. But Rhee could use someone to help her with all the "fall-out" she seems to keep creating as she tries to put good ideas into practice. |

Rhee should introduce a curriculum approach! One problem with DCPS is there is no curriculum. Every school in DC should have one and they should be published online. |
