Ugh, I forgot my slow cooker turns off after 12 hours. I was cooking bone broth overnight and in the morning at about 5:45am I discovered the slow cooker was off. I think it went off at midnight. I turned it back on but have no idea if this is safe to eat or I should dump it. Well, I guess I think I should dump it but I really want to Drink it (but not get sick). Help! This ever happen to anyone? Fwiw, they are beef bones with a bit of meat on them. Thanks for any advice.
Sorry for typo in heading, I meant to write “bone broth.”
I am sure it'll be fine. Unless it smells really awful I wouldn't worry about it. You can always stick it in a pot on the stove and boil it for a few minutes if you're really concerned and that should kill anything weird off for sure.
I’d eat it after bringing it to a boil again and not worry in the slightest.
Dump. I think you can technically boil it for a king time and eat it safely (Michael Ruleman does this I believe) but it’s so questionable and not worth it imo.
Another vote for fine.
Fine. Bring it back to a boil first for ten minutes if you’re extra worried.
Totally fine. Reheat to a boil before using.
Yes, it's fine. Just make sure it comes to a hard, rolling boil for several minutes.
After 12 hours, anything would be cooked by then. So what is sitting there is cooked. Smell it. If it smells bad, get rid of it.
