Double masking toddlers?

Anonymous
I have a 2 year old who goes to a federal daycare center in the DC that requires masking on all kids 2+. I have a young 2 year old who is still is Working on masking properly. The last 2 weeks I have picked her up she - and the other kids - have all been double masked. These kids generally have on two cloth masks or one disposable and one cloth.

I asked the teacher who said that since this class (2s and young 3s) have trouble keeping it on, she feels more comfortable with them having on two so if one slips there is back up.

This is my third kid in daycare/ school so we’ve been masking since it started. I get it. But two masks on a barely two year old feels odd, right? I emailed the director and haven’t heard back.

I don’t know what where else that does this.

VERY odd.

That seems excessive and I"ve never heard of a center (or family) doing this.

Holy Shit.

My kid - or that teacher - would have been out of there YESTERDAY.

She "feels more comfortable" double gagging toddlers? Do you even hear yourself OP?

How on earth can you do that to your child?

Seems weird to me. I don’t mind making my 2yo (and she’s pretty tolerant of it) but I strongly appreciate my daycare’s “eh we try” approach to masking the kids. I figure masking at this age is largely practice anyway.

Double gagging? Do you realize how hard it is to take loonies like you seriously when you talk like that?

I have not noticed other children at DD's daycare double masking. We tried to double mask DD once and when one mask fell down the other did as well. It seems a little bit odd to me? It seems like one mask that stays up is better than two that do not.

That’s exactly what it is. DOUBLE masks on TODDLERS because a so-called teacher “feels” better about it?? Pure evil.

Sigh. I would push back on this. Just say you only want one mask on your child.

Preschool teachers and directors have had a tough road. And some of them aren't making the best choices here, but we have asked too much of them.

maybe they can give her a booster while they're at it - it's all so insane

Don’t they take off the masks to nap? What the F is the point?!

OP back. And you’re so right on your second paragraph. We were at this center pre covid, hung on through the shut down and now have a covid baby there. To say the parents are difficult is an understatement. I don’t want to make their lives more difficult, but this seemed excessive.

Wow, please complain to the management. That is normal maybe somewhere in China, not here! I would never subject my 2 year old even to one mask, let alone 2!!
