It looks like Maryland is considering legislation that would allow any inmate the ability to choose if they will be housed with males or females. So this means if a man is imprisoned for sexual assault, he can identify as female and be incarcerated with female inmates? I support LBGT causes but it seems unfair to expose female prisoners to men who may be violent or sexual predators.

The bill does literally none of thse things. Here's the synopsis, from the link you provided:

Prohibiting an employee of a correctional facility from discriminating against inmates on the basis of certain protected classes; requiring the managing official of a correctional facility to develop a written nondiscrimination policy regarding inmates; and establishing certain requirements for correctional facilities relating to the gender identity of inmates and inmates who are transgender, nonbinary, or intersex.

I don't think we are reading the same thing. Have you read the bill text? Please read the bill text and then respond. The text says that an inmate shall be housed at a facility for men or women based on the inmates preference and that the department may not deny search or housing preferences based on anatomy.

This is one of those "good intentions gone wrong" bill, like California's 3 strikes bill. That was a disaster, too (I'm originally CA).

This is true and it won’t be easy to comply with the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act requirements. We all have too few staff to provide appropriate supervision.

Based on what is happening in other states, this means that transwomen with full male anatomy, who are convicted predators and sex offenders who had murdered and raped children, were transferred to women's prisons where they then raped female inmates. There are PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) records against multiple men who are currently housed in women’s prisons. I'm not sure why this is acceptable to anyone.
