Bakery with Observation Area

Anonymous
Do you know of a bakery with an observation area?

We once happened to visit a bakery while in Herndon in which the dessert makers were behind a glass wall and could be watched from ground and upper level. This was fascinating to my 10yo. I'd like to find something a bit closer to home (College Park). Anyone know of a PG/DC/MoCo bakery with this feature?

Thanks!

Bread Furst (Connecticut and Albermarle) has a window where you can watch the baking en route from the back parking lot to the main area. There can be quite a lot of in/out traffic but if you go during a non-busy time they probably wouldn't mind you watching for a while!

What's the name of the place in Herndon?

Not OP but I believe Amphora Bakery in Herndon has a viewing area.

Yes to Bread Furst.

The Whole Foods at the Kentlands (Gaithersburg) has this and my 9 yo *loves* it. She can watch for hours. You may check some of the bigger WF near you to see if they have something similar.

The real interest is in the decorating part ... cakes, cookies, etc. We were able to see some elaborate desserts made. While Amphora does have some seating for eating on-site, it was more geared toward a quick pick-up or consult on your wedding cake type of place. So it was empty and good for pandemic and leisurely viewing while we tried some treats upstairs. Anyone come across something similar (not in VA)?

We do have a Whole Foods nearby in College Park, but I'll need to pay more attention next time we visit. I don't think the baking is easily visible.

Bramble Baking Co. in Baltimore is worth a trip. They’re in this cute little neighborhood of Baltimore called Hamilton. Also down the road from Emma’s Tea shop. Bramble has a big window to watch their pastries being made. The pastries are seriously delish, and the owner has ties to College Park area, they used to operate out of the Riverdale Park Farmer’s market.

I’m pretty sure Lilly Magilly in Gaitherburg has a big window that looks on the baking/decorating area.

Not bakeries, but places like Duck Donut and Thai rolled ice cream - kids can observe the process behind the counter.
