I noticed there isn't an existing thread on Reformation, which is where most of my friends and I go when we need a dress for a date/wedding/holiday. I'm petite and Ref clothing fit me really well.
My question is, I'm now married and in my early 30s--are dresses like these still appropriate or are they too "young"? What about after kids? https://www.thereformation.com/products/kourtney-dress/1306182FRO.html?dwvar_1306182FRO_color=FRO https://www.thereformation.com/products/saoirse-dress/1310626KLG.html?dwvar_1310626KLG_color=KLG https://www.thereformation.com/products/sully-dress/1310159CAF.html?dwvar_1310159CAF_color=CAF |

I like the last one but the first two look a little cheap to
Me |
| It all pinged "Forever 21" to me, but I'm extremely old, so it's probably fine. |
| Wear it if you like it!! |
| Yea those are all cute for a 25 yr old. I wouldn't wear them and I am OP's age. Ofc wear it if you like it and it is flattering. None of those would be flattering on my frame anyway. |
I agree with this. |

I like their stuff and I'm in my 40s. However, I have found that in the last few years, and especially with a young kid, I am less likely to buy short or super cleavage-focused dresses in general. Not sure if it's age or being a mom, but I have started finding these clothes unnecessarily fussy and I'd only be able to wear them somewhere that I don't have my kid because I'm can't wear things that I can't easily lean over or squat down in.
This is my favorite Reformation dress at the moment. It's too casual for a wedding but it's super versatile otherwise -- dinners out with or without my child, BBQs with friends, girl's night, can even wear on a weekday with a sweater or jacket and a pair of flats and I won't look ridiculous at school drop off or at a work meeting: https://www.thereformation.com/products/rou-dress/1302994BLK.html?dwvar_1302994BLK_color=BLK Also love the Gavin dress for a more formal occasion -- can totally run after a toddler in it without risking a nip slip, but the back and the slit are tres sexy: https://www.thereformation.com/products/gavin-dress/1303035MOG.html?dwvar_1303035MOG_color=EMR&quantity=1 |
| I am busty and hate being braless, so that eliminates like 90% of Reformation dresses for me. That said, I don't think I would wear either of the first two even if I was model-sized. The green one especially is so skimpy |
NP and I like both of those so much. I'm 48 so that probably tells you who they're aimed at! I think if you like how you look and feel in those first dresses, what's the problem? You're not getting any younger - enjoy those dresses while the sun shines! |
| I am early 50’s and have found a couple of dresses from Reformation that fit me very well and look great. I wouldn’t look good in any of the ones you posted, but if they look good on you than wear it! I like their natural fabrics better than the synthetic. I have a black linen one that I love. |
| Very cute. I always forget about them. |
| I’m 36 and love reformation but tend to go for the more conservative styles (no slits, no short dresses). I just can’t pull them off! |
|
OP here. Thanks for the input! I also love the Gavin dress and agree that some Ref styles are less skimpy than others. By cheap, do you mean the dress makes the wearer look cheap or that the fabric looks cheap?
Jia Tolentino has a really interesting article on Reformation: https://www.newyorker.com/culture/on-and-off-the-avenue/virtue-and-vanity-at-reformation |
| That was great- doesnt Ivanka trump love reformation, its a similar but less mediocre aesthetic to her own defunct line. |
| What’s so great about them? They look quite basic. Do they fit amazing or what? |
