What to do in Jackson Hole/Yellowstone/Grand Teton

Anonymous
Family with young adult children, rented an RV, campsites booked in Yellowstone and Grand Teton. 2 nights in Jackson, 6 in Yellowstone, 3 in Grand Teton.
What kind of restaurants, hikes, activities are not to be missed? Any travel blogs or guides you can recommend?

We’re going in August.

When we went to Yellowstone I was jealous of the group in kayaks. Was told they were booked through a private group (not the NPS). I would definitely want to do that if possible; it looked like a lot of fun.

This app was great for deciding which trails to do.

The internet is your friend. There is a lot of information about these parks. Google it.

Flyfishing with a guide; Cafe Genevieve in Jackson for brunch; gondola ride in the Tetons (take the gondola up and down or hike down the mountain after riding up); in Yellowstone, Artist's Paintpots.

Hiking, lots of hiking.

Be sure to bring a good bug spray as some of the hikes around the lakes are mosquito breeding grounds.

One of our favorite non-hiking activities -n Tetons was renting bikes in moose junction and riding along the path to the jenny lake visitors center.

If you have to ask then maybe that’s not the place for you.
I hate clueless tourists in National Parks.

How does researching and crowdsourcing 6 months in advance mean that I am clueless. I’m actually a hyper planner and love ideas from all sources.

So you never ask for recommendations? Huh. Maybe the travel forum is not the place for you.

Use the TripAdvisor forums for Yellowstone and grand Teton.

Download the Gypsy app for both parks, it’s a great guide while driving the loop. I don’t usually buy aps, but it was the best $10 we spent on the whole trip.

White water rafting was a hit. We went to Jackson last summer. Our resort was a lot of fun and split hiking with that. The crowds were crazy we had to hike later in the day around 6p to get tranquility. We did a tour around Tetons that was wonderful. It's not as much to "do" as relax and hike. We never made it to Yellowstone as Tetons was enough to see. I had heard Yellowstone is huge and there's just so much where Tetons is more intimate. I've been to Yellowstone and there is just so much. I loved Tetons more actually.

Avoid the popular hikes. All the hiking in a place like that will be amazing and extreme crowds ruin a hike. But in my experience, just choosing one that gets a lower rating can really cut back on the crowding.

People generally pick a vacation location that matches their interests. They don't pick a vacation location, then try to figure out what there is to do there. If they do the later, it seems to signal a level of cluelessness.

You can also choose a gentle float trip on a raft in whitewater sounds too scary or you have small kids.
