Decisions on financial aid for returning students

Anonymous
When are financial aid awards released for returning students? We applied for aid for the first time this year (not our first year at the school) because of changed circumstances. We received our tuition contract today but no information about financial aid. Does that mean we didn't get any?

They are usually done separately. Why don’t you reach out to whomever does financial aid at your school and ask?

I would call the school. We got our re-enrollment contracts this past week and the FA info with it. This may be because we have always had FA- not our first time. Good luck to you.

It doesn't mean you didn't get it. Whether you get it or not you'll receive a separate notice. As a returning family you most likely got something if they sent the contract. Hope you did and it's the amount you need.

Anyone know if new families get the award decision the same day as admission decision?

In our experience, yes.

Returning students at Bullis get aid with re enrollment contract. We hope our youngest is accepted and will have aid as well which is awarded at time of acceptance.

That makes no sense, how can you sign the contract without knowing if you got aid?

You should contact the financial aid office at your school and ask. As a new family, I’ve gotten the aid with the acceptance and received a letter within a few days of acceptance if I didn’t qualify. As a returning family at my one child’s school, we get the re-enrollment before we know the aid amount. The first year as returning, I sent an email to find out the process, when do they provide the FA decision and what happens if we can’t commit once we find out the amount.

The aid notice will go out before the contract is due

I haven’t received my aid notice. It seems like some schools are running later this year.

Families on aid should not belong to expensive clubs. I know of one we have all been subsidizing for years. Neither parent has ever had a full-time job since we’ve known them and there are no medical reasons why. Just pure entitlement to keep up with the joneses.

Nobody mentioned anything about expensive clubs. “Changed circumstances” could mean anything, especially during a pandemic where many lost their jobs. This response is off-topic and mean-spirited!

Why would the school give this family FA?

Not always. We have experience at two different schools and have received it on the same day for one school, and as much as a week later for another school.

We just completed re-enrollment and FA decisions came out about 3-4 days after the contracts were sent.
