I have been resting since my surgery for three weeks now. I can’t really move around much and mostly sit on the couch. The puppy has been so thirsty for attention. She jumps up next to me and starts pawing at me demanding to me pet. I’m basically her slave and she won’t stop!
Then whenever I’m eating anything she jumps into my lap to try to steal the food. It’s so frustrating! I’m being held hostage by my dog! |

Why did you adopt a puppy OP? What did you think a puppy was, just some small furry sweet cuddly accessory?
|
| So, train the dog to sit a few feet away while you eat. Or, if you are too lazy, crate it for 10 min while you eat. I do not see a problem with the cuddling, that's sweet. If dog paws at you, make it get off the couch for a few minutes. Seriously. |
| It’s a puppy, so yeah, sounds normal. Who is exercising the dog while you rest? |
| Get an e-collar with a vibration setting. When she paws or harasses you for food, hit the vibrate button. If the vibrate freaks her out, then switch to the regular e-collar but on the lowest setting, then raise the setting one level at a time until she's not bothering you. Worked like a charm for my dog that begged. |
Don't do this |
You would do this to an innocent puppy? You are a monster! It is a baby and hasnt been taught what to do. It has needs and wants. Would you shock your human baby because it wants attention? Op get someone to pay attention to your dog! |

Sounds like a puppy! I'm sorry you had surgery and hope you recover quickly, OP! How mobile are you - able to play fetch in the house? Able to hold a bag of treats to do some training? Puppies can drive you crazy even in the best of times, I totally get it. They are adorable and fun, but yes also crazy hard.Is there anyone else in your household, if not you definitely need hire someone to play with that puppy a few times per day and get the energy out whether it's a professional dog walker or a neighborhood teenager. Depending on your budget can anyone take the puppy to a daycare two days a week to get it out of the house, socialized and worn out?
Don't feed the puppy in a bowl, prep all meals in kongs so they will take longer and keep busy. When our lab was a hot mess of a puppy, a measured out portion of kibble filled two kongs. We'd mix it with pumpkin or nonfat yogurt and freeze them. Suddenly each meal took 15-20min instead of 2min. I highly recommend this method with any puppy or dog that eats quickly. If the puppy is still eating 3x/day that's an extra 45-60min that you him occupied. Unfortunately because you're incapacitated this may be a problem that in the short term you need to throw some money at. |
| Electric shocks work too. |
You can't be serious. I would like to electric shock you for saying that. |
| How were you expecting a puppy to act? |
