| If your kid got a non need based, non athletic, non race based merit scholarship from a T20 college, what made them stand out to be picked? |
I don’t think there is such a thing. Well, maybe USC….. But honestly, merit based is very rare. |
| No such thing as merit based scholarship in top 10 atleast |
| Outside scholarships. Absolutely nothing from the schools. |
| Rice, USC, Vanderbilt have some for sure, probably a few others as well. None at Ivies. |
| Try to expand to T25 for merit |
| Agree with the pp’s. Look at T25-50 for any substantial merit. And it may or may not be substantial enough for your individual financial circumstances…. Meaning it would bring the cost down, but short of half or full ride, your in state or oos public may still be cheaper. |
| Nephew lives in Texas and ended up at Rice with a $100k. He is an outstanding student and had acceptations from Columbia, U Chicago and Princeton with $0 financial aid. He had a full ride offer from his state's non-flagship school. |
| He loved Rice but his heart was set on NY, now attending medical school there at Columbia. |
| Received UC-Berkeley Regent's Scholarship OOS. |
How much? |
| Is it a good decision to attend a low ranking T20 for partial (20-30k per year) if you have acceptance to a an Ivy and parents can pay but with with significant stretching? |
| This is rare enough that few people are going to want to 'out' their kid. |
About 61k to 68k per year - varies year to year. |
Only a small number gets into any T20 and much smaller number gets a scholarship at one so unlikely for you to get their perspective here. In my opinion if kid is okay with it, a T20 with 20-30k is an amazing oppurtunity for someone not eligible for enough financial aid to make it work. |
