Rice 15k
Berkeley 10k
UCLA 10k
UCSB 10k

Kind of an odd list because all of these schools are known for their strength in STEM, not humanities/ social science. Since your kid is shy, I’d go with Rice given its reputation for doing well with introverted students .

Um Berkeley and ucla are extremely strong and known for humanities/soc. sciences. /quote]
Yep. Berkeley's English program is right there with Yale at the tippy top and UCLA is usually among the top 10. I haven't checked other humanities or social science departments; just the one department that I know.

University of Florida or University of Georgia for business/finance. Both out of state, both full pay at almost the same total cost.

Slight lean to UGA, unless your student plans to stay in Florida after. Athens > Gainesville for college town, plus easy to get to Atlanta. Gainesville a couple hours or more to almost everything.

100% UF. Much better ranking and excellent career services and job placement outcome. Also, you should be proud to have gotten in as OOS-very low acceptance rate.

Having visited both Gainesville and Athens, I disagree. I liked both towns but prefer Gainesville to Athens. Gainesville is 1.5 hrs to Jacksonville & st Augustine, 2 hrs to Orlando and Tampa. It’s a great, central location.

UF - no comparison. Usually, people will choose UGA when they cannot get into UF (or if they just want to live in Georgia).

Gainesville is very central, but do students at UF visit these places regularly?

When I was a student at UF, we frequently went to St. Augustine beach on weekends just for a day trip. I also went w other students for weekend trips to Disney world, Tampa bay/St Petersburg, Dunedin/Tarpon Springs/Anastasia island, Sarasota/bradenton and many other weekend getaways. Also took a week long trip (spring break) where we drove down to the Keys. So, to answer your question: depends on the student of course but if have the $ and motivation to travel, YES!

Georgia, better college town and doesn’t rely on online classes.

Most college kids rarely leave the campus area, maybe one or two times a semester max.

That is not my experience. Maybe my friends and I are just more adventurous than most but we would leave campus and travel around the area almost every weekend.
